Jamie Bream
2014 Award of Excellence Recipient
Jamie Bream, a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, is a 2002 graduate of UNC-Pembroke where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education.
From 2002-2008 he was director of bands at Southern Middle School in Aberdeen. Under his direction, the SMS bands received consistent superior ratings, and performed extensively, both locally and at Walt Disney World. In addition to his middle school duties, he was an assistant band director for Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines and the SMS tennis and soccer coach.
Mr. Bream has served as director of bands at Sycamore Lane Middle School (2008-2015) and Spring Hill Middle Schools (2015-2024), both in Laurinburg, NC. Mr. Bream has continued to receive consistent superior ratings at district MPA festivals and place students in All-District and All-State Bands. Both the SLMS and SHMS Bands have traveled to Walt Disney World, Williamsburg, Virginia, and Asheville, NC receiving several 1st place trophies. Mr. Bream has assisted with the Scotland High School Marching Band, coached both boy's and girl’s soccer, and was the 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year at Sycamore Lane.
Currently, Mr. Bream is the Band Director at Scotland High School in Laurinburg. He is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, National Band Association, North Carolina Music Educators Association, and the Southeastern District Band Directors Association. He has served as the North Carolina All-State chairman for middle school, Southeastern District President, Southeastern MPA Chairman, and the NC Bandmasters President. Mr. Bream is an active adjudicator and clinician across North Carolina and was awarded the Southeastern Districts Award of Excellence in 2014. Mr. Bream was inducted into the prestigious American School Band Directors Association in 2015.
